Timber Framing
|
Timber framing, a very traditional way of building a house, dates back more than 2000 years. In timber-frame structures, sawn beams (timbers) are connected by using traditional wood-to-wood joinery to create the main frame of the house. Incorporated braces stabilize the structure. The building envelope is finished much as a post-and-beam structure, using SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) or framed components . Commonly the North American style displays the frame only on the inside, whereas the European style shows the timber work on both sides. |
